New Delhi: It took 12 years for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali to materialize his dream of making Bajirao Mastani. And when he did manage to pull off the mammoth task, he produced pure marvel. The box office collections of the movie in India have made it the 12th highest grossing movie of all time.The historical drama released on 18th December and has completed one amazing month since its release.
Till yesterday, it had raked Rs 184.16 crores in India.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called such a performance at the box office superb in this tweet of his:
Before Bajirao's release it was anticipated that it would lose the box office battle to ‘Dilwale'. The latter being superstar Shah Rukh Khan's movie was expected to smash and create new box office records. What looked like a great start for the SRK-Kajol starrer, turned around mostly because of the bad reviews.
On the other hand, due to strong word of mouth and steady run at box office, ‘Bajirao Mastani' took over ‘Dilwale' by the end of first week itself.
It also became the third highest grosser movie of 2015 after Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Bajirao's journey in the last four weeks has been fantastic too. Week wise, it earned Rs 86.15 crores in the first, Rs 55.70 crores in second, Rs 29.05 crores in third and Rs 10.11 crores in fourth week.
Overseas too, it has maintained its strong hold. Till today it minted Rs 98.12 crores and is all set to enter the Rs 100 crore club.
Laden with grandeur sets, bespoke costumes, heart touching story, memorable dialogues and above all incredible performances from Ranveer, Deepika and Priyanka made ‘Bajirao Mastani' in the list of movies which have redefined the classic cinema.
