New Delhi: Black Friday, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur and now Ugly – filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has come a long way, since his Satya days, when he co wrote the film and went unnoticed like any other writers. But today it's different; the things have changed drastically and have worked according to this era defining filmmaker, who is up with this Friday release Ugly.

Here we take a look at his greatest works which will be cherished for decades.

Black Friday- The ugly truth behind the 1993 Mumbai blast is what the director compellingly brought before us. Untouched from any cinematic liberty, the fearless Anurag through Black Friday told what was needed. The movie is a meticulously naturalistic docudrama, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and was also nominated in the Best Film (Golden Leopard) category at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Dev D- Winning over six Filmfare Awards and one National Award, Dev D gave a brilliant breakthrough to Bollywood. Some defined the movie as Anurag's sample as to what he is capable of as a director. So great was the twisted recreation of the epic Devdas starring Shah Rukh that the superstar himself praised the filmmaker and lead actor Abhay Deol. The film also had Kaki Koechlin and Mahie Gill in the lead.

Gulaal- In the same year 2009, Anurag presented Gulal which explored the themes such as pursuit of power, quest for legitimacy, perceived injustices and hypocrisy of the powerful. Starring Raj Singh Chaudhary, Kay Kay Menon, Deepak Dobriyal and Mahi Gill in the lead, movie was hugely admired for its gritty screenplay and was considered as the best political flick ever.

Gangs of Wasseypur- If above flicks brought Anurag Kashyap in notice then, Gangs of Wasseypur series put him at fore in the best directors' list. With so many actors and each getting equivalent meat, Anurag Kashyap was applauded for scripting all characters efficiently. The revenge saga however was inspired from 80's era of Bollywood but still was far from any B'wood cliché.

Ugly- This Friday release Ugly is considered to be directors' best works so far however, we wait for it to hit the theatres to give our final vote. But going by its trailers and rave response it has received in international film festivals, Ugly looks a mother of all suspense thrillers with dark mystery surrounding the plot and its characters which are played by Ronit Roy, Surveen Chawla, Rahul Bhatt, Siddhant Kapoor among others.
