New Delhi: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today joined the #GiveItUp movement and surrendered his LPG subsidy and will from now on, buy cooking gas at market price.
Now he is among the list of many coveted celebrities who have given up on the subsidy under the initiative of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Acknowledging the gesture, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, said that such a noble gesture by Mr. Bachchan would surely inspire many others to join #GiveItUp, a movement committed to bring smiles to millions of poor households by providing them access to clean fuel (LPG).
As on date, more than 30 lakh people have surrendered their LPG subsidy in response to the appeal made by Prime Minister on March 27, 2015. PM had also promised that the money saved from this effort will be utilized to provide LPG connection to poor households.
Notably, Amitabh Bachchan was the brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism during PM Narendra Modi's chief ministerial days. The superstar didn't charge a single penny for the campaign, revealed the PM Modi in Aap Ki Adalat.
It clearly showcase that the bond between the two is very special and unique.
Now, as Amitabh has joined the #GiveItUp Movement, it will surely delight the Prime Minister who is keen on empowering the weaker section.
