"Happy birthday Mr B, and never forget I was the first one to wish you" - this was Amitabh Bachchan's blog post, dated July 31/August 1, 2012. This year too, Mr Bachchan didn't forget the day he was ‘reborn'.
Here's what Amitabh Bachchan has written on his Facebook page:
"Aug 2, the day I lived again ... my Coolie accident ... brought to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai and second surgery performed, where when I did not come out, was clinically dead for a few minutes ... so many that know wish me a Happy Birthday for today ... Many thanks in advance ..for it was the prayers of millions of my countrymen that saved my life."
There was no sign of life in him for days. The nation mourned and fans prayed for him in temples and thronged the hospital vicinity to wish him goodbye. His close friend Rajiv Gandhi called off his trip to the United States to be with him. It took several cortisone injections by the doctors to see him move. It was a miraculous recovery for the actor and people close to him.
Amitabh Bachchan took several months to fully recover from the accident and return to the film sets. "Coolie" eventually turned into a big box office hit and the 'accident' changed Big B's life completely.
