New Delhi: Actor Akshay Kumar's ‘Airlift' has brought great news for him. After being a part of average grossing movies, Akshay has finally struck gold with his last release. Within six days of its release, the movie has minted Rs 78.50 crores at the box office. The movie has left behind Akshay's Rowdy Rathore to become highest opening weekend.
‘Baby' which was Akshay's last Republic Day release did garner attention for its content but did not rake the expected money at the box office. It did join the Rs 100 crore club, but seems ‘Airlift' will surpass it very soon.
Despite a clash with adult comedy movie, ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum 3', the movie earned Rs 44 crores in the opening weekend. A Monday which would have significantly dropped the collection, had infinitesimal affect on ‘Airlift'. On Monday, the movie kept its steady pace at the box office by earning Rs 10. 40 crores.
On R-Day, Tuesday, it further added Rs 17.80 crores in its collection and Rs 6 crores on Wednesday.
Undoubtedly, one of Akshay's finest performances in recent years, ‘Airlift' struck the right chord the viewers. Based on the real life incident of the biggest civil air evacuation, the movie narrates the story of Indian refugees caught amidst the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war. In one of his recent media interactions, Akshay had accepted that the movies like these come once in a lifetime in an actor's life.
And seeing the audience's overwhelming response to Airlift, we totally agree with Akshay's statement.
Starring Nimrat kaur and Purab Kohli too, the movie released on 22nd January.
