New Delhi, Apr 22: The last time Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor were to walk the Cannes red carpet together it had resulted in a much publicised ‘catfight'. But the two have kiss and made up and will be seen on the French Riviera this year along with another Indian beauty, Freida Pinto.
Aishwarya who will complete a decade of representing cosmetics giant L'Oreal at the prestigious film festival this year, said that she was “happy” to have such beautiful company.
“Several countries have always had more than one spokeswoman at Cannes and I'm glad India is finally getting the same recognition. I am happy that with Sonam and Freida, both beautiful women, being invited to the festival this year, India will have a stronger presence,” said the 37-year-old actress in a statement.
In 2009, just days after Sonam announced that she will be walking the Cannes red carpet as a L'Oreal spokeswoman, the company had announced otherwise.
It was reported that Aishwarya was the force behind the decision and the younger actress had retaliated by calling the Bachchan bahu “aunty” in public.
But all is well now and the Sonam, will walk the prestigious red carpet on May 15.
“It has always been my dream to walk the red carpet at Cannes. I look forward to meeting actors and filmmakers from the world over and attending screenings of some interesting films,” said the 26-year-old daughter of ‘Slumdog Millionaire' star Anil Kapoor.
Freida will represent L'Oreal at the amfAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research) dinner and after-party May 19.
“It is every actor's dream to attend this festival but I am especially privileged as I also get to lend my support to an important cause by attending the amfAR dinner when I'm there,” said Frieda.
Other L'Oreal spokespeople attending Cannes this year are Cheryl Cole, Eva Longoria, Gwen Stefani, Claudia Schiffer, Patrick Dempsey, Diane Kruger, Jane Fonda, Milla Jovovich, Aimee Mullins, Laetitia Casta, Paz Vega, Fan Binging, Ximena Navarrete, Zhang Zilin, Ines de la Fressange, Gong Li, Doutzen Kroes and Li Bing Bing.
