We have seen our favourite actors bagging trophies at commercial award functions but many of them are yet to get the honour from the government. They may rule the heart of millions but they have failed to impress the jury that takes the call on national award.
Here we have compiled a list of 10 popular actors who have not received national awards
1) Shah Rukh Khan:
Though Shah Rukh Khan is mostly known for spelling magic through his romantic films but the 49-year old actor has also given very measured performances in films like Chak De, Swades, Dil Se, and Devdas. It surprised many when Saif Ali Khan got national award for 'Hum Tum' overlooking SRK's much better work in Swadesh.
2) Amir Khan:
As hard it may be to believe but Aamir ‘the perfectionist' Khan has not received a single national award for acting. Known for adapting to his character like a chameleon, Khan has changed the course of Indian cinema through his films like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai.
3) Salman Khan:
Some may argue that Salman Khan is more of a star than an actor but Khan's performance in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Tere Naam, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Baghbaan are noteworthy.
4) Hrithik Roshan:
Hrithik Roshnan won critical and commercial acclaim for his role of a challenged kid in Koi Mil Gaya. His performance in Guzaarish and Jodha Akbar also won him accolades from one and all. Though he has just touched his prime and he still has a long way to go. So you never know.
5) Dilip Kumar:
We may overlook all the stars mentioned above but Dilip Kumar, the most venerated actor in Bollywood, has not received any national award in his entire film career. We don't need to count names here we have a list full of his amazing work-- Devdas, Madhumati, Ram aur Shyam, Leader, Mughle-e Azam, Ganga Jamuna.
6) Akshay Kumar:
Th Khiladi of Bollywood is also missing on the national award list. His performance in Namaste London, Khakee, Oh My God and Hera Pheri won him critical acclaim apart from the commercial success but the national honour for acting still evades him.
7) Rajesh Khanna:
Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna never got any national award. Though his films like Anand, Kora Kagaz, Haathi Mere Saathi were commercial success but he never received any National award.
8) Dharmendra:
Dharmendra may have gained popularity as Bollywood's first He-man but before all this he was a very fine actor. His work in Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, Pathar Ke Sanam were very mature though it was overshadowed by his image of action hero. He also did not receive the coveted award.
9) Dev Anand:
The evergreen ever youthful man of Bollywood was a man who lived life on his own terms. Till the very end of his life he continued to make movies. The actor who gave some marvellous performance in Guide, Asli Nakli, Kala Pani, Jewel Thief remained deprive of the national honour.
10) Sunil Dutt:
Known for his role in some of the Bollywood's most popular films like Mother India, Padosan, Mujhe Jeene Do, Sunil Dutt did not receive national award in his entire life. Interestingly, his son Sanjay Dutt received the honour for his stunning performance in Vaastav.
