Tamil superstar Vijay, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Mersal, has asked his fans to not pass derogatory comments against the female journalist, who criticised his film Sura on Twitter. The actor in a statement said that he respects women and everybody has the freedom to criticise any film. He went on to say that people should admire womanhood. The actor’s comments came after police filed case against four people for threatening the lady.
Vijay in his statement said, “It is my view that no woman should be spoken of in a demeaning way for any reason or any time.”
It all started when a Bengaluru journalist Dhanya Rajendran compared superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal with Vijay’s Sura saying the that Imtiaz Ali’s directorial venture is worse than Sura. This criticism didn’t go do well with Tamil star’s fans, who bombarded her with abusive tweets.
Soon after this, Vijay’s crazy fans continued to use offensive language against the lady. After receiving over 75,000 tweets, the journalist filed a complaint.
On a related note, Vijay’s Mersal is all set to hit the screens in October. The actor will be seen in a triple role in the film. The film is directed by Atlee Kumar.
