Kolkata: ‘Dhanak’ director Nagesh Kukunoor has hailed the Bombay High Court order which struck down all but one of the 13 cuts suggested by the censor board in “Udta Punjab”.

“I have always supported certification and not censor. I myself faced the same problem in ‘Hyderabad Blues’ where the censor had recommended 91 cuts. And I had to go all the way to the tribunal which was very fair,” Kukonoor told PTI.

“Like Anurag (Kashyap), I had planned to move High Court if the issue was not resolved at the tribunal,” he said.

Affirming that the film industry has got new strength from the judgement of Bombay High Court, Kukunoor said, “Hope this strength continues.”

The has directed the film, scheduled to be released next Friday, be issued an A certificate for screening immediately.

Kukunoor, whose ‘Dhanak’ will release on the same day, described his new film as a feel-good movie about two children on a magical quest.
