Audience say 'no' to piracy: ‘Udta Punjab’ mints Rs 21.30 crore in two days

New Delhi: The controversial movie ‘Udta Punjab’, which was leaked online just two days before release, has witnessed a great flight on the Box Office.

Based on drug abuse in Punjab, the movie has raked in Rs 21.30 crore in two days of its release on June 17, despite the high quality print being available online.

On the first day itself, it earned Rs 10.05 crores even after the CBFC controversy and the leak. While on the second day, the movie’s business witnessed a growth of 11.94% as it collected Rs11.25 cr.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted this about the movie’s collections:

As per Adarsh, Udta Punjab is all set for Rs 34 crore (+/-) business in the opening weekend. However, the business on weekdays is crucial, which will set the tone for movie’s lifetime collections at the box office.

These figures definitely speak volumes about movie’s craze among the audiences.

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles, ‘Udta Punjab’ has managed to strike the right chord with the audience. The movie saw almost housefull opening in the northern part of India, especially Punjab and Delhi.

Some media reports even suggested that villagers traveled in trucks to reach multiplexes to watch the movie on the first day itself.
