New Delhi: Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has finally issued a fresh release certificate to the controversial movie ‘Udta Punjab’ after Bombay High Court passed the film with just one cut and three disclaimers.

The Censor Board, headed by Pahlaj Nihlani, has given ‘A’ certificate to the film citing that the film is suitable for exhibition but only for adults.

Interestingly, Bombay HC had ordered the Censor Board to issue the fresh certificate to ‘Udta Punjab’ within 48 hours and had asserted that in case of failure legal action will be taken against the person responsible.

The disclaimer on the certificate reads:

“After examination of the film by the Examination Committee/ Revising Committee/ Film Certification Appellate Tribunal mentioned below and on the recommendations of the Examination Committee/ Revising Committee/ Film Certification Appellate Tribunal, the board hereby certifies that film is fit for public exhibition, restricted to adults only, subjected to excisions and modifications listed in part II on the reverse.”

It has come as a big relief for the ‘Udta Punjab’ makers who had approached Bombay HC against the 89 cuts suggested by the CBFC.

Confirming the receipt of the certificate from CBFC, Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer Ravi Suryavanshi said, “We have received certificate. They (CBFC) has given 'A' rating”

When Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani was questioned about the same he asserted that CBFC knows how to perform the duty.

“Have given the certificate. CBFC knows it work & is diligent in performing their duties,” he said.

The Bombay HC in its order on June 13 had disposed the 89 cuts suggested by the CBFC saying that the board doesn’t have the power to censor.

Helmed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab is slated to hit the theatres on June 17.
