The noted writer, humorist, columnist and playwright, Taarak Mehta has left to his heavenly abode at 87. He succumbed to his prolonged illness in Ahmedabad. He is now survived by a daughter from his first marriage.
Taarak Mehta garnered popularity for his column ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ in Gujarati. His first humorous column was published in a Gujarati magazine, Chitralekha in 1971 and ever since then, Taarak Mehta’s popularity met no lows. After the news of his sad demise was out, condolences and support poured in from the fans and followers of the veteran writer. The Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal and President of Bhartiya Janata Party, Amit Shah also tweeted his deep condolences for the loss of such a talented personality.
Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah is a show that airs on SAB TV which draws its contents from his critically acclaimed column ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’. Within the few episodes, Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah became the flagship show of SAB TV. The show is very popular among the masses because of the light-weighted comedy and meaningful content of the show. In year 2005, Taarak Mehta was awarded with the prestigious award of Padmashree.
