The Manmohan Singh biopic titled The Accidental Prime Minister, featuring Anupam Kher, has been making headlines for quite some time now. The veteran actor, who is playing the former Prime Minister, has begun shoot for the film in London. Co-producer Ashoke Pandit shared photography stills on social media, which has taken everyone by pleasant surprise. Anupam Kher bears striking resemblance to Manmohan Singh in these new stills and, fans can’t stop but stare in awe.
Taking to his Twitter handle, the co-producer shared the pictures with a caption that read, “The journey begins! #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister with the legendary @AnupamPKher, commences filming in #London. Proud to be co-producing this film with @bohrabros1. Written by @mayankis, directed by #VijayGutte”.
The first poster of The Accidental Prime Minister was shared by Anupam Kher in June 2017. ““To reinvent yourself as an actor is to challenge yourself. Looking forward to portraying #DrManmohanSingh in #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister”, the actor tweeted.
The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh is the book written by former Prime Minister’s media advisor Sanjay Baru. The producer of the film Sunil Bohra revealed that they have completed the research on the movie and it is going to be bigger than Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.
Besides Anupam Kher, Akshaye Khanna has been roped in to play Sanjaya Baru. For those unaware, Sanjaya Baru was the media advisor and chief spokesperson of then PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, who courted controversy when he wrote the memoir, The Accidental Prime Minister. Akshaye, who was last seen in the Sridevi starrer Mom said that he was absolutely “thrilled and excited to be a part of a venture” calling it a game changer at many levels.
That he hasn’t yet had the “privilege” to meet Baru, Khanna said “The balance which he (Baru) gave to the book needs to be admired”, in an earlier interview.
Directed by debutant Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the memoir by Baru is expected to hit the screens in December 2018, just ahead of the next general election in 2019.
