New Delhi: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar got support from her million fans when comedian Tanmay Bhat did a spoof video of hers. In the video, which sparked a new controversy, Tanmay mocked Lata ji saying that she is too old and should die.
Many labelled Tanmay’s jokes as ‘insensitive’, so much so that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) filed an FIR against him. But, Lata Mangeshkar seems indifferent to the entire row. Earlier, when asked to comment on it, she said that she doesn’t know who Bhat is and has no inclination to watch the video.
However, now Lata Mangeshkar has said that she is upset because the controversy doesn’t seem to die out. While speaking to a leading daily, Lata ji said,
“Log bahot pareshan ho gaye. Mujhe yeh bura laga (People have been troubled and I don’t like it.). I don’t like the idea of people getting hassled because of me. I want to assure all my well-wishers that these (spoofs, etc) are very small matters. There are far greater issues in life. We must not give undue importance to those who thrive on maligning people. I am sure they have their reasons for doing what they do.”
When asked if she was in any way offended by the video, the 83 year old said that she has seen many problems in her life to be effected by a video. She said,
“Nothing affects me. I’ve been through so much, I’ve faced so many hurdles in life. At an age when other girls play with dolls I was out of the house trying to find work as a singer. I learnt from a young age that work is the only thing that matters.”
Amidst this entire ruckus around the video, Lata ji said that she is touched by the support she received. Many B-town celebs from Javed Akhtar to Salim Khan, Anupam Kher to Riteish Deshmukh, thought that Tanmay crossed a line this time. On the support she got, Lata added,
“It’s the love of the people that has kept me going for so long.”
