The Supreme Court on Thursday gave a nod for an all India release to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, which was earlier titled Padmavati. The Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer is all set to hit the cinemas on January 25. The court order came after Gujarat and Rajasthan had banned the release of the movie in the two states. While the Rajput Karni Sena is now protesting the Supreme Court order, members of the social media are extremely happy with the court’s decision.
Padmaavat makers moved the top court through senior lawyer Harish Salve and advocate Mahesh Agarwal and submitted, in a petition, that the movie has undergone changes including in its title as suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Asserting that the film has been cleared by the CBFC, the plea said the states cannot impose a blanket ban on a film and its screening can be suspended in a particular area or areas on account of law and order problem, not across the states.

The makers, Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, have said the film is based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic poem "Padmavat". It stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji.
