Actor Rajkummar Rao on Wednesday took to Twitter to share the first look and teaser of his forthcoming horror-comedy film Stree. The film also stars Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi and is scheduled to released on August 31. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree is a comical take on the folklore narrating tales of witches in the rural areas. In the sneak peek shared by Rajkummar Rao, a woman is seen levitating above the grounds with an eerie backdrop.
Along with the first look, he also shared the teaser of the film, which shows a deserted town with all its inhabitants probably have fled their houses. The cameras goes through the lanes with houses placed close to each other and walls having the same message, ‘O stree, kal aana’ which translates to Stree, come tomorrow.
The message is written in red and is assumably painted on the walls to ward off the evil witch which the folklore refer to as Stree. The voice-over also says, ‘yahan koi mard nahi’. The end of the clip is the most bone-chilling part where a woman dressed in red saree is seen floating above the grounds.
The teaser starts with a message that the film Stree is based on a ‘ridiculously’ true phenomenon.
Bollywood has recently opened the gates for the horror-comedy genre with Golmaal Again last year and Nanu Ki Jaanu this year. Previously as well, films like Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi and Hum Tum Aur Ghost forayed into the less explored genre of horror comedy, however weren’t able to mint good numbers at the box office.
Stree is directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Raj and DK. The film has been shot in Chanderi, a small town in Madhya Pradesh. Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan’s film Sui Dhaaga also shot some its segments in the hamlet.
Stree is scheduled to release on 31st August.
