Two big releases this Friday- Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya, are from completely different genres. While Laxman Utekar's film starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon is a rom-com, Abhishek Chaubey's multi-starrer is power-packed dacoit drama. Both the films look promising and will enjoy footfalls in theatres, however, as per indianexpress.com, Kartik Aaryan's film will be ''frontrunner'' this week. Trade analyst Girish Johar has predicted that Sonchiriya will earn Rs 1.5 crore on day one whereas Luka Cuppi will mint Rs 5 crore. Sonchiriya has Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey, Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles.
Johar said though Sonchiriya's trailer has created a buzz, it is not a mass-action drama and has no songs. However, he believes that the film will gradually catch up. ''Sonchiriya looks like a niche, rustic and a raw film and is not a mass-action drama. Though its trailer was much-talked about, the awareness level around the film is on the lower side. Also, it has no songs. So, the film will be backing on word of mouth. It will not be the frontrunner, but it can surely catch up over the weekend. I peg the film somewhere around Rs 1.5 crore,'' the trade analyst said.
Meanwhile, Sonchiriya will also face tough competition from Total Dhamaal, which is on a roll. Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Madhuri Dixit's family entertainer has minted Rs 88 crore on six days. Will a raw, rustic film survive in the race? Only time will tell.
Earlier, in an interview, director Abhishek Chaubey explained the title of his film. ''Sonchiriya is the name of a bird, the great Indian Bustard, that is found in Chambal. It’s a very rare species of bird and I think it’s endangered too. We kept it as the title of the film as one of the characters of the film is called that. Who it is, you will get to know when you will watch the film,'' he said.
