Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar believes that ''homosexuality is a tendency'' and ''is not a permanent thing''. He said this during a lecture at New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University. While his comments have stirred a controversy, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor made it a point to school him about homosexualitty.
The diva is upset with the comment made by Sri Sri and called it ''irresponsible''. As per a report in Scroll.in, a student asked the guru about how he should tackle mistreatment meted out to him by family because of his sexual orientation. To which the spiritual guru replied, ''If you stand up, nobody can insult you, but if you feel bad about yourself, nobody can make you feel better. This is your tendency now...just acknowledge it, accept it, and know that this tendency is not a permanent thing. It may change. I've seen many men who were gay later turn into heterosexuals, and there are those who are normal, who are called straight people, end up being gay later in life.''
Outraged by such a statement, Sonam Kapoor tweeted, ''Homosexuality is not a ‘tendency’ it’s something you are born as and is absolutely NORMAL. To tell someone you can change is irresponsible.'' Alia Bhatt too supported Sonam and tweeted, ''OMG kinda moment! ''
Sonam Kapoor, who is currently shooting for Veere Di Wedding got Special Mention National Award for her role in Neerja. She will also be seen in Akshay Kumar's Padman.
