With Sonam Kapoor’s strong performance in ‘Neerja’ and the role of a Bihari migrant played by Alia Bhatt in ‘Udta Punjab’, the year has been amazing for Bollywood’s leading ladies. In the race for awards, both Sonam and Alia are keeping their fingures crossed. Who will win the battle with maximum awards? Only time will tell.
The ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’ actress recently won the Best Actor award award in Masala Awards 2016, Dubai for ‘Neerja’ and shared her joy on Instagam.
Thanking the entire team of the movie, the lady made it clear that in the era of awards, the fact that she got the opportunity to play ‘Neerja’ was a great honour for her. Sonam dedicated her award to the cast of ‘Neerja’.
“Thank you for the love.. #bhanots#bling#rammadhvani#teamneerja A lot of conversation has been about awards and who deserves what. As an artist I’m just thankful for the experience of playing #neerjabhanot , That in itself was amazingly rewarding… all this dialogue belittles what this incredible woman stood for. Nevertheless all my love to #teamneerja , this is yours as much as it’s mine..,” she wrote.
Sonam made her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Sawariya’ and has been featured in many movies, but rarely applauded for her acting skills.
Ram Madhvani’s directorial venture ‘Neerja’ became a game changer in Sonam’s career. The movie was based on the real life story of an airhostess Neerja Bhanot who died while saving passengers from terrorists who hijacked a plane Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986. Sonam not only received rave reviews for her performance but the film also did well at the box office.
The actress will next be seen in her sister Rhea Kapoor’s flick ‘Veere Di Wedding’ alongside Kareena Kapoor.
