Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Simmba, which is a remake of South Indian film Temper, is all set to cross the coveted Rs 50-crore mark in mere three days of its run in the theatres. The film which has Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, has managed to impress the audience to a great extent while receiving mixed reviews from the critics. It’s a complete masala entertainer, just like Rohit Shetty’s previous projects, that’s pulling family audience to the theatres. Also, New Year’s eve and no other Bollywood release is also the major reason behind the film’s massive success.
Tweeting the collection of Day 3, Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, "#Simmba sets the BO on Day 3... Has a fantastic weekend... Growth on Day 3 [vis-à-vis Day 2]: 33.13%... Should record solid numbers today [31 Dec] and tomorrow [1 Jan]… Fri 20.72 cr, Sat 23.33 cr, Sun 31.06 cr. Total: ₹ 75.11 cr. India biz."
In the first two days of its release, Simmba has raked in Rs 20 crore and Rs 23 crore at the domestic box office. On Sunday, the numbers are expected to rise as it’s the last weekend of the year 2018. Also to mark, Rohit Shetty’s Simmba becomes Ranveer Singh’s highest opening film ever. Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat raked in Rs 19 crore on its first day.
Ranveer Singh expressed gratitude towards Rohit Shetty and the entire team for trusting him for Simmba. He said in a statement, “The record-breaking opening of Simmba is for the entire team to cherish and I thank Rohit Shetty for believing in me and trusting that I can do his masala cop film convincingly.”
Simmba also marks the second film of debutant Sara Ali Khan. She debuted in Bollywood with Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Kedarnath which also performed well at the box office. In the month of December itself, Sara’s two films Kedarnath and Simmba emerged as box office winners of the year.
