New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s last release ‘Fan’ doomed at the box office, despite a lot of noise created around it. This was definitely unexpected given that the movie featured one of the biggest star of Indian cinema. But apparently it did not come as surprise for King Khan himself.
Shah Rukh Khan during his interview to Huffington Post India revealed that he knew ‘Fan’ would bomb at the box office and that the team, he included, did one fundamental mistake with it.
“It felt awful. Between Adi (Aditya Chopra, producer), Maneesh (Maneesh Sharma, director) and me, we knew it wouldn't make money; we are not stupid. The film didn't have any heroine, didn't have any songs. Plus, we released it on a non-festive weekend. But Fan is still the closest to my heart. Having said that, I think we made a fundamental mistake with it ” said SRK on Fan’s commercial failure.
The next question obviously had to be, what fundamental mistake, to which Shah Rukh replied that sorry should not have been enough for Gaurav Chandna. “He asked him for a 'sorry'; he should have asked him for his life. He should have said, "You killed the fan in me, I want to kill the star in you." 'Sorry' wasn't strong enough a plot point to base the whole film on as Gaurav's character was destroyed,” explained Shah Rukh.
Coming from the star of the movie himself this is a hard hitting point. Maybe this change could have written a different fate for the highly anticipated movie at the box office.
In the same interview, Shah Rukh Khan also revealed an important detail about his acting. He said that for him it was easy to play Gaurav in Fan than play Kaali in Dilwale but he did it because of the commercial value attached to these movies.
“I'm not the guy who stands and says lines like 'Hum shareef kya hue, poori duniya hi badmaash ho gai'. It's not my world. For me, it takes more persuasion to dance on the streets with 100 extras than sit down as a fan and say 'Kachche waale fan toh door se hi karte hain'. That is more me. That is my space. But I cannot make films only for my mind. I have to make it for people to watch,” added King Khan.
The Badshah of Bollywood also said that he likes more subtlety in movies but he does it because it is challenging.
