New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious project ‘Fan’ has performed poorly at the box office in its first week. The Maneesh Sharma directorial was off to a good start but failed to keep up with the momentum with the passing days.
In the first week, the movie has earned only Rs 71.50 crores in India. Sadly, it could not even touch the 100 crore mark in the first week.
The maximum money it earned was on the release day, 15th April. On first day, the movie earned Rs 19.20 crores and the collections kept dropping with each passing day.
Here is what trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
‘Fan’ which tells the tale of a superstar Aryan Khanna and his obsessive look alike fan Gaurav Chandna. The movie opened to average to good reviews but it did not help rake mullah at the box office.

In terms of collection, ‘Fan’ has performed poorly as compared to ‘Dilwale’, SRK’s last movie. Within a week, ‘Dilwale’ had entered the 100 crore club, earning Rs 102 crores. This happened despite the movie getting bad reviews and facing stiff competition from ‘Bajrao Mastani’.
If his last movie’s dream run at box office was stalled by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus movie, this time Shah Rukh Khan fell short in front of children fiction movie, ‘Jungle Book’. The story of Mowgli stuck in a jungle with wild animals has earned Rs 122.74 crores, making it the most successful Hollywood movie in India this year.
‘Jungle Book’ is in its second week and is mostly restricted to multiplexes in big cities. But the movie is running in houseful theatres. A clear proof of ‘Jungle Book’s’ popularity is that on Monday it screened in 1200 theatres and earned Rs 4 crores; whereas Fan, which screened in 3200 screens, earned only Rs 5 crores.
Overseas too, ‘Fan’s’ business has been average. It has earned close to Rs 52 crores with the maximum money coming from countries like UAE, Canada and USA, where SRK enjoys a huge fan following.
