When the entire country was hailing judiciary for its verdict and sentencing of rape accused Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Shah Rukh Khan too expressed his happiness over the decision. The self styled godman who is guilty of raping two sadhavis who worked in his ashram has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. King Khan who was shooting for Ted Talks: Nayi Soch said that he is happy as Dera Sacha Sauda chief has been sent behind bars.
Shah Rukh who was at the last day of his shoot for the first schedule of the show reportedly took the mic and said, "The director will perhaps not like it as it's not part of the show, but I am happy to say Ram Rahim Singh has been sentenced." However, according to a report in Mid-day, to avoid any controversy, the channel will not air that specific part. Besides Shah Rukh, Rishi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Raveena Tandon, Vir Das, Anupam Kher, Twinkle Khanna, Farhan Akhtar also applauded law of the land and condemned violence and rioting by Ram Rahim's followers. But not everyone in Bollywood is happy with the verdict. Singer Mika Singh who is also a follower of the controversial baba took to Twitter to extend his support, "My best wishes to @Gurmeetramrahim bhaaji .. I hope the court will make the right decision. The greatest thing is he went on time," he wrote.
After a special CBI court in Panchkula announced the verdict, his ardent followers turned into a violent mob vandalising and torching public properties. The situation was so volatile that section 144 was imposed in several parts of Delhi, Noida, Haryana and Punjab. However, no violence was reported on Monday when the quantum of sentence was announced. Dera Sacha Sauda chief who produced, acted and directed five movies under the franchise MSG was ready with the sixth instalment but judiciary ruined his plans. Ram Rahim not only dons just three roles for his movies but also sings, writes and composes songs for them.
