New Delhi: A few days ago, Indian television took a bizarre turn when in one of the popular daily soaps the protagonist turned into a fly. For the uninitiated, in ‘Sasural Simar Ka’, Simar turned into a fly and social media went berserk. Mostly everyone on online platforms slammed Indian television for going so low in terms of content.

There were many jokes made about this sequence but the lead actress Dipika Kakar doesn’t give much heed to it. While speaking to a leading daily she shared her thoughts on her character turning into a fly. She said,

“Creatively, as an actor, I have no say in the story line and so, there are no reactions. I am narrated the script and I have to perform. When I heard about the upcoming track, I looked at it from Simar’s point of view and the real Dipika was somewhere in the back.”

A few weeks ago, ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ ripped off a teaser of popular series Game of Thrones, only to be welcomed by flak by the followers of the hit HBO show. To this too Deepika said she doesn’t care much.

“Many jokes are floating around — like how it has been copied from Game of Thrones, but they don’t affect me as our show has been a trendsetter in many ways.”

Dipika’s take on jokes too were more or less the same like her earlier comments,

“As I said, I take it as a part of the success the show has gained. Many of our tracks have later become trendsetters on TV. When something is doing well, people are bound to pull it down.”

Undoubtedly, SSK runs many bizarre concepts on the show. The team sometimes brings in witches, then ghosts and now this fly sequence. But Dipika feels that this only pushes her boundary as an actor. She added,

“It’s challenging as the tracks are definitely not things I believe in real life — from witchcraft to turning into a fly. But I love challenges and that’s what makes it more fun.”

Dipika also said that despite the fly sequence she is not on a break and her screen visibility will not be affected.
