Though Sanju and Race 3 released half a month apart, but the comparison between two big Bollywood films is inevitable. Salman Khan’s action film released on June 15 giving it a 15-day window to do its fair share of business before Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju releases. However, it’s surprising to know that Ranbir Kapoor-starrer is far ahead of this mega budget film in terms of box office collection. As Sanju completes its successful run on the silverscreens on day 12, let’s compare how these two Bollywood mega projects are faring at the BO.
Salman Khan’s multi-starrer Race 3 minted Rs 2.25 crore on its Day 12, making the total box office number Rs 161 crore. Despite the mixed reviews, this third instalment of Race franchise received a tremendous response at the BO, probably citing Salman Khan’s fan following and also, the Eid festivities.
On the other hand, Sanju had already raked in more than Rs 200 crore in its first week itself. And now it’s an inch away from touching the coveted Rs 300 crore mark. It earned Rs 9.25 crore on its 11th day of run, pushing the box office number to staggering Rs 270 crore.
The 11th day collection of Sanju is sufficed to put the Race 3 wave to rest. Despite the strong star cast and having an already hit franchise at its disposal, Race 3 didn’t manage to get past Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju fanfare.
Rajkumar Hirani sacrificed his Munna Bhai M.B.B.S 3 to helm Sanju and this decision came out to be a super-profitable one for the filmmaker. It broke all the box office records of 2018 and it won’t be unfair to say that the coming films have to gear up pretty hard to shatter the records of Sanju. It’s been 12 days since the film released, but most of the multiplexes are having housefull shows for the Ranbir Kapoor film. It isn’t too early to say that with Sanju’s tremendous performance, the young RK’s career is back on track.
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will be next seen in Brahmastra with Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan. He will also work on Shamshera, which is scheduled for 2020 release.
