Superstar Salman Khan’s latest release Tubelight entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club on the sixth day of its release but it has left distributors in pain, who had high hopes with it. Bhaijaan’s previous films that were released on Eid, did earth-shattering business and thus, this time also distributors spent huge amount for the theatrical rights of Tubelight. But, looking at the average collections of the film, distributors may not be able to make profit with it.
Film trade expert Girish Johar revealed to a leading daily that distributors can only make profit only if the film manages to earn Rs 300-350 crore. If reports are to be believed, the theatrical rights of the film were sold for Rs 132 crore and the lifetime business of Tubelight is expected to be Rs 125 crore. According to a source, distributors may have loss of Rs 50-70 crore after the film’s poor collection.
Salman was looking different in the film as she shed his macho avatar.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight also features Sohail Khan, Matin Rey Tangu and Chiness actress Zhu Zhu. Tubelight marked the third collaboration of Salman with Kabir. The movie set against the backdrop of Sino-Indian war also had a cameo by superstar Shah Rukh Khan. So far, the film has collected Rs 107.32.
