New Delhi: Superstar Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ has all the elements of being a blockbuster - the stardom of the 50 year old, a big production house, a renowned actress, well thought promotions, a story which doesn’t lack drama and foot tapping music.
With such a strong backbone, trade pundits have suggested that ‘Sultan’ will be the biggest blockbuster of this year.
It should not be forgotten that there is the Eid factor. Salman is the king of box office when it comes to Eid releases and the first weekend collections of ‘Sultan’ will surely not surprise many.
But, ‘Sultan’ is not only about 100 crores or a blockbuster. If ‘Sultan’ enters the Rs 100 cr club, it will be Salman’s 10 consecutive movie to do so.
Since Dabangg in 2010, to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in 2015, all of Salman’s movies have earned more than Rs 100 crores. Have a look at this list.
1. Dabangg (2010): Rs 142 crore
2. Ready (2011): Rs 123 crore
3. Bodyguard (2011): Rs 148 crore
4. Ek Tha Tiger (2012): Rs 199 crore
5. Dabangg 2 (2012): Rs 159 crore
6. Jai Ho (2014): Rs 113 crore
7. Kick (2014): Rs 233 crore
8. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015): Rs 321 crore
9. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015): Rs 211 crore
These figures only ascertain that Salman means profit. No other superstar is close to these numbers. His friend Shah Rukh Khan could have achieved it, but the ‘Fan’ debacle happened. In fact Aamir Khan has 4 movies, Akshay Kumar has 5 and Ahay Devgn has 5 movies which made the cut of Rs 100 crore club.
But, the unmarried superstar himself doesn’t want to settle at Rs 100 crores. He is eyeing the Rs 200 crore club and for that he even has a plan. Salman said during an interview to a leading daily that movies earn money but the footfall is less.
Salman said,
“We thought, ‘If we have to hit the Rs 200 crore mark, we will do with Rs 200 ticket, and not with expensive tickets.’ But Jai Ho, didn’t touch that figure. We will try that again with some other film as the ticket prices should come down. Numbers (box-office earnings) are increasing, but footfalls are decreasing. I don’t want that to happen.”
So, will Salman go for cheaper tickets to get into the Rs 200 crore club? Let us see if he choose Sultan for this plan of his or any other movie.
