The August 12 release of Bollywood, ‘Rustom’ has become one of the highly talked about movies of this year. Starring Akshay Kumar, Ileana D’ Cruz and Esha Gupta in pivotal roles, it draws inspiration from the K.M. Nanavati Case of 1959.
The Nanavati case played a major role in changing the legal system of India as it was the last case to be by a jury. In 1959, Naval officer Nanavati had allegedly shot his wife Sylvia’s lover. What followed was a case which shook the Indian judiciary and left a deep impact on the ones connected to it.
In ‘Rustom’, Ilena’s role Cynthia is similar to real life Sylvia. Given the entire back story about the case, it might have been difficult for Ileana to say yes for a character who allegedly cheated on her husband.
However, Ileana feels that it was the emotional connect with Cynthia that convinced her to do the movie.
In a Twitter chat yesterday, Ileana was asked what is the one thing which she feels is common between both her and Cynthia. To this, the 28 year old actress said, “According to me Cynthia is a very emotional person and so am I.”

Well, now only time will tell if the audience can also connect with Ileana’s portrayal of Cynthia.
