Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanjay Dutt biopic has blown away people’s minds like crazy. The movie has become unstoppable and is earning good numbers at the box office even on day 24. It is reported that Sanju minted around Rs 3.28 crores at the box office, which makes its total as Rs 333.55 crores (approx).
The movie is now in its fourth release and is facing competition from movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Dhadak. The whitewashing criticism of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer notwithstanding, the film is still dominating the box office. The usual movie-going audience does not seem to care whether the film depicts events faithfully or not. Also, it can be argued that Sanju is a commercial film and a commercial film, first and foremost, has to be a crowd-pleaser.
The Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju released on Friday across India on over 4000 screen, being the second biggest film to release after Salman Khan’s Race 3. The film helmed by Rajkumar Hirani is based on the life of Sanjay Dutt and the controversies surrounding him. It stars many Bollywood actors including Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma and others.
Our film critic Shalu Singh said, “Sanju doesn't aim to glorify Sanjay Dutt and the makers make this crystal clear in the first scene when Piyush Mishra as a servile biographer is kicked out of the house, making way for the entry of Anushka Sharma, who plays an impartial writer, Vinnie Dias. Sanju is the narrative of two major incidents in Dutt's life. The first half shows how the actor set to make his Bollywood debut, directed by his dad Sunil Dutt becomes a drug addict. Ranbir's naivety and vulnerability as young Sanjay Dutt strike a chord with your heart. In pre-interval, Ranbir is like any one of us- a young boy who is clueless about his career and can make a mess out of his life at any point.”
