New Delhi: Piracy seems to be taking a hard call on Bollywood industry. Earlier, ‘Udta Punjab’ leak before its release created an uproar. While the Censor Board claimed to be innocent, it seemed to be the beginning of their problems.
Now, the piracy has a fresh target and it is none other than megastar Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’.
According to the media reports, ‘Kabali’ has been leaked online. While this has come as a shock for the makers, they are putting in efforts to remove the movie from unauthorised sites.
“We’ve contacted the authorities to pull down all these unauthorised links to the film. However, this is a Rajinikanth film. It is difficult to contain let alone control the excitement for a film starring the Thalaiva,” a source reportedly told an entertainment portal.
This is not the first incident post ‘Udta Punjab’ leak.
Indra Kumar’s ‘Great Grand Masti’ was leaked online 17 days before release. In fact, superstar Salman Khan couldn’t escape being targeted by piracy as his last release ‘Sultan’ too was leaked a night before its release.
While CBFC has once again become the target post ‘Kabali’ leak, Pahlaj Nihalani has claimed the board has no role in it and has raised concern over piracy.
“Now, the pirates have not spared Rajinikanth either! Kabali was censored in Chennai, so it had nothing to do with our office in Mumbai. Earlier, there was Salman Khan’s Sultan. However, I don’t think collections of films with iconic stars will get affected by the leaks. It is the smaller films featuring non-A-listers, which get hit by the leaks. Great Grand Masti is a case in point,” Nihalani was quoted saying.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith, ‘Kabali’ also stars Radhika Apte, Winston Chao, Dhansika, Dinesh Ravi, Kalaiyarasan, and John Vijay. The movie is scheduled to release on July 22.
