New Delhi: Millions of fans of South India’s biggest superstar Rajinikanth are waiting with bated breath for ‘Kabali’. In this Pa Rajnith directorial, the ‘Thalaivar’ will be seen playing the role of a don who fights for the rights of Tamil.

It is being said that the movie draws a lot of inspiration from real life incidents. The director said during one of his interviews that the movie was made possible only because of Rajinikanth. Riding solely on the star power of Rajinikanth, it would be obvious to think that the makers paid a hefty amount to him to bring him on the board.

As it turns out, the term hefty doesn’t even begin to explain this amount. According to media reports, the beloved Rajinikanth of Southern film industry charged Rs 35 crores for this movie.

And that’s just not it. Reportedly, Rajinikanth has signed a deal with makers that Rs 45 crores of the first week’s collections will be his.

Summing the amount, the total comes to Rs 80 crores.; which is more than 50% of the film’s total budget. The producer S Thanu in his recent interview revealed that the movies has been made on a budget of Rs 100 crores.

These figures are only a testimony of the phenomena Rajinikanth is.

Why such buzz around Kabali?

A major reason why ‘Kabali’ is what everyone talks about these days is because of the star Rajinikanth. But it is just not that. Here are reasons why ‘Kabali’ has become a larger-than-life movie.

Rajinikanth the actor:

For quite some years now, fans are seeing the superstar Rajinikanth and not the actor. Though all of his previous movies, Robot and Lingaa did fabulous business at the box office, the impeccable acting of Rajinikanth was nowehere to be seen. In fact, the director Pa Ranjith revealed during one of his interviews that while writing the screenplay he pushed the superstar image of Rajinikanth to make way for a more real character.

No sci-fi or animation:

The makers of ‘Kabali’ had reportedly approached Rajinikanth with ideas of two movies, one was a sci-fi supernatural drama and the other ‘Kabali’. Rajini’s daughter gave a nod to the story of ‘Kabali’ because they felt it would connect with Tamils better.

Goodbye to Rajinikanth’s clichés:

Pa Ranjith during one of his interviews said that this movie has no clichés that come along with the superstar. He said that Rajinikanth has done away with his fast walk too, something through which he is recognised. Also, Rajinikanth will speak a lot of Malay in the movie, something which is a rare sight.

The character:

Kabaleeswaran, Rajinikanth’s character is a don who fights for the rights of Malaysian Tamils portraying the star as the saviour. This will definitely strike a chord with the viewers given the image of Rajinikanth. However, the director also revealed that the movie might have a sad ending. But he also added that it will be one of the biggest highlights of the movie.
