The Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor starrer PadMan hit the cinemas on February 9 amid huge expectations. The film started off decently by earning Rs 10.26 crore at the box-office. However, now the social drama seems to be falling flat and, predictions say that the film might not enter the coveted 100 crore club.”#PadMan declined considerably in Weekend 2... Entry into the ₹ 100 cr Club is ruled out, as per current trending... [Week 2] Fri 2.10 cr, Sat 3.15 cr, Sun 3.78 cr. Total: ₹ 71.90 cr. India biz”, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
PadMan has witnessed a decline in the second week of its release. Directed by R Balki and produced by Twinkle Khanna, the social drama talks about menstrual hygiene.
The movie is based on the real-life story of Tamil Nadu-based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkins machine.
The movie was earlier scheduled to be released on January 25 but after filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s requested Khiladi Kumar, PadMan was pushed to February 9 to avoid clash with Padmaavat.
Akshay Kumar hopes to create awareness about menstrual hygiene with his latest release PadMan.
"Nobody is interested in listening to speeches or watching documentaries. They are more interested in knowing about a subject through films. "People have watched 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' and they have understood the importance of toilets and not defecating in the open. Entertainment is the best way to spread social message," Akshay said in a recent media interaction.
