Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period saga Padmaavat (name changed from Padmavati) is finally releasing on January 25. It is the first Bollywood film ever to be released in IMAX 3D. Also, Padmaavat is going to release in Tamil and Telegu to reach out to the regional audience. On Tuesday, the lead actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor tweeted a new trailer of Padmaavat in Tamil. The trailer remains the same as the Hindi one, only the language has been translated.
Padmaavat has been facing a widespread protest from fringe group Rajput Karni Sena. Despite the CBFC giving a clear pass to the film, Karni Sena demands a nationwide ban on the film. The film has already been banned in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat. The makers of the film have moved Supreme Court against the ban by various states. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the plea of producers of controversial film Padmaavat.
Meanwhile, Shri Rajput Karni Sena has blocked highway in Rajasthan protesting against the film. Over 200 police personnel have been deputed to avoid any untoward incident. Speaking to media on Wednesday, the Karni Sena spokesperson said: "We will continue our protest... We are around 2,000 in number now and we are sure that this number will go up by this evening."
Earlier, the film was facing flak from fringe groups for maligning the Rajput Queen’s image. The outrage started after a rumour of dream sequence between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmini broke out. However, the filmmaker took to social media to shun such reports.
