Padmaavat is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period film based on the life and legends of Rajput Queen Rani Padmavati. It is based on the fictionalized poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The film has been facing protests from fringe groups like Rajput Karni Sena for distorting historical facts. Despite the outrage, Supreme Court gave the clear chit to Padmaavat, ordering the states to hold the screening of the film. However, 4 Indian states have defied SC’s orders and have banned the film. Barring these 4 states, Padmaavat has released pan India on January 25th.
