Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has reportedly bagged a role in Ranveer Singh’s upcoming cricket drama 83. Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is based on India’s Cricket World Cup victory of 1983 and will see Ranveer essaying the role of the legendary former cricketer Kapil Dev in the film.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Nawazuddin has been approached to play Ranveer’s coach in the film. The Munna Michael actor has been in talks with the film's makers for a while now and is expected to be on board soon.
'83 is all set to hit the screens in August 2019, and the film might go on floors later this year. The casting is still on for other central roles. The film will be shot at real locations.
Nawaz and director Kabir Khan had earlier collaborated for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which also starred Salman Khan. Nawaz had essayed the role of a Pakistani news reporter, Chand Nawab. His character had received immense love. The film had come out to be a blockbuster.
In an interview to PTI, filmmaker Kabir Khan spoke about the Kapil Dev biopic starring Ranveer Singh and said, "It's great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script."
"As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup. I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on”, Kabir Khan added.
