In more trouble for Kapil Sharma, who is in the eye of storm following his tweet to PM Modi over a purported bribe demand by a BMC official, Oshiwara Police has booked stand-Up comedian along with actor Irrfan Khan for illegal extension.
The FIR was registered under MRTP Act for illegal extension based on the complaint by the BMC.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sub-engineer Abhay Jagtap lodged the complaint with Oshiwara Police Station under various sections of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe.
In the complaint, Mr Jagtap had alleged that Mr Sharma, who owns a flat in DLH Enclave on New Link Road in Goregaon, had violated norms and carried out illegal construction in the flat, a senior police official said.
Kapil Sharma lives on the 9th floor and Irrfan Khan on the 5th floor of DHL Enclave in posh Oshiwara area in Mumbai.
“The case has been registered by BMC officials who have found the two Bollywood personalities in violation of the rules under MRTP Act. During the course of the probe the two will be called in for questioning,” an official told The Indian Express.
Conviction under the section invites a jail term varying from one month to three years, and a fine of Rs 2,000-5,000.
Raj Thackeray-led MNS Monday filed a complaint against Sharma for keeping mum on his allegation that he was asked money by the civic officials, and violation of building norms by him.
Rais Shaikh, Samajwadi Party (SP) corporator and group leader in the BMC, sent a defamation notice to Sharma seeking to disclose the name of the official who allegedly sought a bribe. “We have given him three days’ time to reply to our notice. We will assist Sharma in taking action against the civic official.
Sharma had kicked up a controversy last week by alleging that he had been asked to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh by an official of BMC which, in turn, claimed that the actor had flouted norms not only in his Versova office building but also at his apartment in suburban Goregaon.
