Classical dancer Ashwini Ekbote died on Saturday night after collapsing on stage during a performance in Pune.
The 44-year-old, who had also acted in several plays, was performing at the Bharat Natyamandir in Pune this evening when she collapsed on stage, a police official said.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead, the official said.
Her husband Pramod Ekbote is a senior radio technician with the Pune Fire Brigade working with them for the past 25 years.
Her son Subhankar Ekbote is also in the acting field.
Ashwini was versatile artist and active on the Marathi circuit, whether it is film, theatre or stage.
After making her debut with Akleche Kande (2001), Ashwini went on to star in Dumkata (2007) and Baavare Prem He (2014). She was last seen Colors’ show Ganpati Bapa Morya.
