New Delhi: Southern Cinema, which hasn’t had a successful release since Baahubali: The Beginning, is going through turmoil these days.

As the most anticipated movies have failed at box office, a bitter exchange of abuses has broken out online among fans of contemporary stars of Telugu films.

Moreover, the fans of one superstar, who are upset with set back to their favourite, are heckling others at promotional events and promotions.

Recently Allu Arjun was targeted by the overenthusiastic fans of K Pawan Kalyan and forced him to sing praises for PK. When he denied, he was heckled and trolled on Twitter for days with hashtag “chooskuntam, brother” (we will see you, brother).

Though later he lashed out at the fans saying,

“At every function, you guys chant ‘Pawan Kalyan, power star’ and force me to say something about him. I keep quiet not because of Pawan Kalyan but because of you fans. Some of you are becoming a real nuisance and things are getting out of hand. Sometimes you don’t even allow people to speak. You do this even when senior actors like Chiranjeevi is speaking.’’

Another actor Allari Naresh, was forced to say that actor Mahesh Babu deserves a national award.

And the ones topping the list of this misconduct are the fans of Mahesh Babu, whose latest release ‘Brahmotsavam’ is receiving lukewarm responses at the box office.

On Wednesday, fans of actor Mahesh Babu called for “lynching” an editor and “firebombing” a newspaper office in Hyderabad for publishing an unfavourable review of Brahmotsavam. Police were deployed at the office following the threat.

Mahesh Babu’s movies, previously, would draw full houses but his latest release is apparently not doing well at the box office which gave the room to fans of other star to poke fun at him.

The war of words, which often ends up in abuses, is going on between the fans of Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kumar.

Fans of Pawan, brother of K Chiranjeevi, have described Brahmotsavam as “Floputsavam” on posts on Facebook and Twitter. Mahesh Babu’s fans have reacted by posting memes calling Pawan a comedian and a cartoon.

Moreover, the family of Cheeranjeevi including Allu Arjun and Pawan are tagged as “mega family” and are accused of paying to say or write against other actors.

Sadly, tweets against actors are retweeted thousands of times within hours and derogatory Facebook posts are getting thousands of likes. One comment by fans of one actor is matched by more nasty comments by fans of other actors.

And this vicious circle of cyber war is seeing no end any soon.
