Abhishek Kapoor's directorial and Sara Ali Khan's debut movie, Kedarnath had to go through a troubled phase before it could see the light of the day. The tussle between producer and director made a lot of noise, however, Kapoor fought the battle and stood by his film till the last moment. Having said that, there was a time when Abhishek or Gattu, as film fraternity fondly calls him, had to take legal action against his lead actress.
Yes, Kapoor had to take legal route as Sara signed Simmba while controversies engulfed Kedarnath. When the film got stuck, Sara sought help from Rohit Shetty and bagged Simmba. This was unacceptable for Kedarnath director. Talking about the same, Kapoor said that Sara had no clue how much pain he took to release Kedarnath before Simmba. As per a report in Firstpost, the director said, ''It is true. I was paid my full free upfront when I started this film. When the s*** hit the ceiling, I could’ve just walked away with my remuneration with not a care in the world. But I chose to not to abandon the project. I pulled it out of the crisis. And then when Simmba instead of Kedarnath was being called out as Sara’s debut release I fought a battle with Sara in court and then pulled up the release of Kedarnath ahead of schedule in December, which was logistically a crazy thing to do."
Interestingly, Sara's performance in Kedarnath got her rave reviews. On the other hand, in Simmba, her role was no more than eye-candy. Sara played the role of headstrong girl Mukku in Sushant Singh starrer film. Kedarnath was set against the backdrop of massive 2013 Uttarakhand flood. The movie triggered controversies and was banned in Uttarakhand, still, it managed to earn over Rs 53 crore.
On a related note, Sara's last film Simmba has entered Rs 200 crores club. The team Simmba recently celebrated the success of their film. The bash was attended by Ranveer Singh, Sara, Rohit Shetty, Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone among others.
