New Delhi: Dharma Productions’ ‘Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921)’ has established a strong hold at the box-office. In its eight days of release, the movie about a dysfunctional family has earned Rs 51 crores in India till Friday.
Starring Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rishi Kapoor and Rajat Kapoor, the film’s collections have been commendable despite the fever of T20 World Cup gripping everyone.
The movie has also performed brilliantly overseas and has now joined the Rs 100 crore club. Another feather in the cap for ‘Kapoor & Sons’ is that it has become the highest grosser of 2016 overseas in only one week.
Here’s what trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
It is expected that the success run at the box-office for ‘Kapoor & Sons’ will continue till R. Balki’s ‘Ki & Ka’ releases this Friday. This week’s releases, ‘Rocky Handsome’ and ‘Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ have failed to lure viewers to screens. John Abraham’s ‘Rocky Handsome’ has minted Rs 7.06 crores till now. The superhero movie opened to poor reviews so it is unlikely that it will have effect on ‘Kapoor & Sons’.
With such an amazing response, the three leads, Alia, Sidharth and Fawad, have every reason to be joyous. Fawad Khan has already become the pigsney of critics’ owing to his remarkable performance. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor too garnered a lot of appreciation for his portrayal of Daadu.
As promised by Dharma, this movie is a must watch for all age groups and the numbers indicate that it has been welcomed with open arms.
