Renowned ghazal singer Jagjit Singh gave several soul-stirring songs to the industry before he passed away in 2011. Honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2003, he gave many tracks that will always be an invaluable asset for the ghazal aficionados.
Known as the King of Ghazals, Jagjit Singh knew the talent of bringing the surrounding to life as the singer used to give words to those unsaid human emotions.
From dreamy love songs to celebrating loneliness and even creating an aura of the perfect quiet evening, Jagjit Singh’s miraculous voice could do it all.
Interestingly, he carved a niche for himself in the ghazal industry at a time when it was ruled by Pakistani ghazal singers. But soon Jagjit Singh became popular across the world.
There was a time when Singh used to sing with his wife Chitra Dutta. However, their joint projects ceased in 1990 post the death of their 18 year old son.
Jagjit Singh has not just released several albums of his ghazals, but he has also crooned for numerous of Bollywood movies. In fact his silken voice has done wonders to several Bollywood songs, such that it is unimaginable to think those songs being sung by any other singer.
Despite being years since the legend has left the world, his songs keep him alive in our hearts with his poignant voice and take us down the memory lane.
