New Delhi: Actor Irrfan Khan who can be credited for changing the way the West looks at Bollywood, has come down heavily on those who try to manipulate film awards. Film awards, have been a centre of many controversies. Time and again, many A-listers have said that film awards are partial and favour a certain lot of people.
Despite delivering critical performances in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ and Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Talvar’ last year, Khan did not take a single award home. Irrfan, not being the one to mince his words, showed his displeasure by saying that his role in ‘Piku’ was much more than a supporting actor.
“Some people with power and resources manipulate these things. It's part of the game and works for some time, but I haven't built my career on this. It's the audience that eventually makes and breaks you and they know that Piku was not a supporting role,”
said Irrfan to a leading daily.
While Irrfan was unhappy for getting less credit for ‘Piku’, his co-star Amitabh Bachchan won a National award for it. Big B also took home the Filmfare for Best Actor (Critics); a Screen Award, a Stardust Award, a BIG Star Entertainment Award, and a Zee Cine Award, besides a host of other nominations.
Well, Irrfan is surely discontent over the whole issue. Though, he did not aim directly at Big B, he is sure upset with the people who choose winners. It should not come as a surprise now if Irrfan boycotts attending these functions.
