New Delhi: The year 2016 has proved out to be quite lucky for superstar Akshay Kumar. The actor has given two movies this year – ‘Airlift’ and ‘Housefull 3’- and both of them scored big at the box office.

His recent release ‘Housefull 3’, which is a multi-starrer, is doing wonders at the box-office. The movie has earned a remarkable Rs.53.31 cr in its opening weekend.

With such an amazing response, the movie has broken all the box office records of 2016 so far and has made the highest opening weekend business of 2016.

Earlier, this record was held by Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Fan’ which had earned Rs. 52.35 cr in its opening weekend.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the exceptional performance of ‘Housefull 3’ along with the figures of the entire weekend collection of the movie.

He also tweeted the top 4 weekend grossers of 2016, highlighting that ‘Housefull 3’ has turned out to be the winner so far.

In fact, ‘Housefull 3’ has also scored big in international markets as it earned Rs.26.77 cr in the opening weekend.

Looks like Akshay Kumar is all set to take on the throne of ‘king’ of box-office.

Earlier, his first release ‘Airlift’ did a commendable business at the box office. ‘Airlift’ has been the only movie of 2016 so far which has entered the 100 crore club with a collection of Rs. 127 crore.

And with the growth ‘Housefull 3’ has witnessed it is expected that it might beat ‘Airlift’ to become the highest grosser of 2016.
