Happy Birthday Rekha: This is how the timeless beauty entered and conquered the Hindi film industry
Veteran actor Rekha, who has delivered successful films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Ghar and Khubsoorat, has turned a year older today.
Rekha is one of the talented actresses of the film industry. The lady still continues to rule million hearts with her beauty and powerful acting but her journey in the industry was not a cake walk. It is said that the lady was forced to quit her school and join films because of the troubled financial conditions of his home. She made her acting debut in 1966 with Telugu film Rangula Ratnam. She made her Bollywood debut in 1969 with Anjana Safar.
She tasted success in 1970 when she bagged the lead role in Sawan Bhadon. The movie was a big hit. But, it was never easy for the lady to carve her niche in the Hindi film industry. During the initial years, she was criticized for her dark complexion. The lady also faced trouble while communicating with her co-stars as her Hindi was weak.
Rekha then worked on her and went through the complete makeover. The lady came into limelight in 1976 when she first appeared with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Critics heaped praises on her. After this she delivered many successful films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Ghar and Khubsoorat.
In 1981, Rekha worked in a film titled Umrao Jaan that won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Later, the veteran actress started playing her second innings and played roles of mothers on films like Dil Hai Tumhaara and Koi...Mil Gaya.

Speculations of Rekha and Big B started doing the rounds ever since both the actors appeared together in their first film. 10 years ago, Simi on her show made Rekha to pen up about it. The veteran actress stated that there was nothing true in those rumours. However, she admired Big B for his qualities.
In 2010, Rekha was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cinema.
