 The veteran diva of Bollywood, also known as the ‘Dream Girl’, has turned a year older today. Born on October 16, 1948, the gorgeous actress today celebrates her 68th birthday. Even today, this ageless beauty rules millions of hearts.

Hema Malini has done number of Hindi films and made us believe in her magic. Most of the time Hema was paired opposite the man of her life, her husband and veteran actor Dharmendra. The other Bollywood megatars she was paired with are Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan.

Hema has set an example of maintaining her dignity of a Bollywood superstar. 

On this special day, lets rewind to five iconic movies of Hema Malini:

1) Sholay (1975):

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay was one of the classic hits of Indian cinema and won several awards for the same. In this flick, Hema Malini was potrayed as a bubbly, fiery and very talkative woman who does what she thinks is right. 

After this iconic movie, people started calling her ‘Basanti’ as she carried off the character beautifully. Her dialogue from the movie, “Yoon ki, yeh kaun bola?”, is till date one of the most popular ones.

2) Seeta Aur Geeta (1972):

This movie which was a combination of comedy and drama was completely carried on Hema Malini’s shoulders. The actress played a double role in the movie. She superbly portrayed two opposite characters with much ease and her comic timing was just remarkable.

3) Dream Girl (1977):

Directed by Pramod Chakravorty, this movie made Hema Malini the ‘Dream Girl’ of Bollywood. In this movie, she played five different characters with full conviction and won many hearts.

4) Baghban (2003):

The Bollywood family drama was perfectly directed by Ravi Chopra and Hema Malini was paired opposite Amitabh Bachchan. Through Baghban, Hema Malini shut her critics up and proved that she could also portray older roles with grace. 

Through this movie, she wisely defined the overall behaviour of a female who supports and loves her family.

5) Satte Pe Satta (1982): 

The 1982 released movie ‘Satte pe Satta’ was an adaption of 1954 movie ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. The superstars who featured in this action comedy were Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan, Ranjeeta Kaur, Sachin, Shakti Kapoor, Paintal, Sudhir, Inderjeet, Sarika, Kanwaljit Singh, Prema Narayan, Mac Mohan and Kalpana Iyer amongst others. 

Other than these, Hema Malini has many iconic films to her credit. The Burning Train – 1980, Razia Sultan – 1983 and Trishul are amongst the films that you must see to know the calibre of this actress. She is 68 now but her aura is as magical as always.
