Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar’s Independence Day treat to his fans, Bollywood movie Gold has maintained steady numbers coming on the weekdays. After a good run in the first week, the movie has earned almost Rs 79 crores and has recorded the fifth highest first-week number of 2018. On the other hand, John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate stands at the eights position when it comes to box office collections.
The Reema Kagti-directorial Gold became Akshay’s highest opening film ever, beating Singh Is Bling which was his highest opening film till now. Reports also suggest that the sports drama is heads on with Salman Khan’s Eid offering Race 3. However, going by the reports in Box Office India, it is said that the film has witnessed 60% drop on Monday and earned just Rs 3.75 cr. On Tuesday, the movie did decent business and earned Rs 4.50 crores.
Talking about Gold, India TV’s film critic Shalu Singh wrote, “This historical sports drama by Reema Kagti with fictional characters is based on 1948 Olympics when India won its first gold medal as an Independent nation. This patriotic saga is connected by several dots of the history like World War, India’s freedom struggle and partition. The first half of Gold is where characters come into the light and this goes on smoothly. Kagti talks about Tapan going deep into alcoholism and partition that ripped India. Not all the scenes and instances are intriguing. Gold is beautiful in bits and parts, especially the last 30 minutes, as it keeps you glued to the screen.”
