Bollywood's Khiladi Akshay Kumar comes with yet another offering for Independence Day with Gold. The film is all about independent India’s first Olymic Gold win in 1948, under the supervision of Tapan Das played by Akshay himself. Gold also marks TV actress Mouni Roy’s Bollywood debut. She has played Akshay’s wife Monobina in the film. As we already expected, the film has raked in moolah at the box office. However, the numbers are higher than we expected, unfazed by John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate.

Gold Box Office Collection Day 1
As tweeted by trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Gold raked in Rs 27 crore on its day 1 at the box office. It is being said to be the highest ever for an Akshay Kumar film. It also marks the sixth consecutive hits in the last three years for Akshay Kumar. The trade analysts are sure that this film will break all the records for the superstar. Now we’ll have to see if Gold manages to break the record of Rowdy Rathore that enjoys being Akshay Kumar’s highest earning film so far. It raked in Rs 133 crore at the box office.
Gold’s box office collection was boosted by the fact that it was released on Independence Day, pulling more audience to the theatres due to national holiday. Also, based on a patriotic note, the film intrigued masses who contributed to the surprising number.
A report claimed that Akshay Kumar’s Gold started the August 15 morning with more than 60% occupancy in the theatres. As the day went forward, the numbers rose up. Positive word of mouth also contributed to the BO numbers.
Gold Review
Talking about Gold, India TV’s film critic wrote, “This historical sports drama by Reema Kagti with fictional characters is based on 1948 Olympics when India won its first gold medal as an Independent nation. This patriotic saga is connected by several dots of the history like World War, India’s freedom struggle and partition. The first half of Gold is where characters come into the light and this goes on smoothly. Kagti talks about Tapan going deep into alcoholism and partition that ripped India. Not all the scenes and instances are intriguing. Gold is beautiful in bits and parts, especially the last 30 minutes, as it keeps you glued to the screen.”

On the other hand, John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate also did a great job among the critics as well as the audience. The revenge drama raked in Rs 18 crore, becoming the highest opening film for John Abraham.
