New Delhi: Tony D Souza’s ‘Azhar’ which chronicles the rise and fall of Indian cricket team’s former captain Mohammad Azaharuddin is expected to do decent business on its opening day. In the movie which opened 2500 screens pan India, actor Emraan Hashmi essays the titular role.
According to media reports, the movie saw 25% occupancy in morning shows. The movie registered maximum footfall from Gujarat and mass sectors. Given such response, the movie will settle for somewhere around Rs 7 crores on first day. And so it did.
The biopic earned Rs 6.30 crores on first day. Here is what trade analayst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
As far as critics are concerned, most of them gave full marks to Emraan for his portrayal but were not too impressed by the story telling and direction. Many discerning viewers also felt that the biopic is delivering half baked truths.
‘Azhar’ faces less to no competition from other Bollywood releases of this week. ‘Dear Dad’ and ‘Buddha In A Traffic Jam’, too hit theatres today, but in absence of a buzz, they won’t hamper the movie’s collection in any way.
It however faces competition from, ‘Baaghi’ which has done exceptionally well in single screens. The Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor starrer earned Rs 75 crores by the end of second week.
Not only this, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ too had a better week. The first week total for the movie stands at Rs 42.72 crore.
