Filmmaker Karan Johar announced the official release date of his upcoming romantic film Dhadak, which stars debutantes Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. Dhadak is the Hindi remake of Marathi hit Sairat. According to his announcement, the film will release across India on July 20, 2018. Karan Johar tweeted a new poster of Dhadak along with its official release date.
He wrote: #6monthstoDHADAK #dhadak releasing 20th JULY 2018! Directed by @ShashankKhaitan and PRESENTING #janhvi and #Ishaan @DharmaMovies @ZeeStudios_ @apoorvamehta18
Dhadak is directed by Shashank Khaitan, who earlier helmed Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan-starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The film is a love story between an upper caste girl and a lower caste boy. 2016-film Sairat became one of the highest grossing Marathi films ever. It made a business of Rs 120 crore in worldwide collection. Sairat was directed by Nagraj Manjule and featured Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar in lead roles.
Sridevi’s eldest daughter Janhvi Kapoor is making her Bollywood debut with Dhadak. However, Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khatter has already worked in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds with Malavika Mohanan.
In November 2017, Karan Johar unveiled the poster of Dhadak, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. Following this, KJo was trolled on social media for once again promoting nepotism in the industry by launching star kids. The filmmaker didn’t pay heed to the trolls. Later, he wrote an emotional post for his actors Janhvi and Ishaan on social media.
“It's a new year which means new beginnings and time for new relationship goals... Dear Janhvi and Ishaan, you are going to embark on a new journey of stardom this year. You will face many firsts in 2018 from promotion to paparazzi to link-ups and trolling to fame and failures. You are going to see it all. Through all of this, I just want to remind you to not take yourself too seriously and absorb every new experience because these initial days will never come back again. Janhvi, Ishaan your best qualities are that you all are still students. That you both really stand by your beliefs and the fact that you really don't take yourself as seriously as I sometimes think you should. I love the fact that you are still vulnerable and innocent, please hold onto that," wrote Karan Johar.
