Just like the previous week, this one too has been about Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Pink’ at the box office. Owing to the positive word of mouth, the movie saw encouraging footfalls at the theatres. In fact, none of this Friday’s releases, ‘Banjo’ or ‘Parched’, could give any sort of competition to ‘Pink’ at the box office.
Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri’s ‘Banjo’ earned only Rs 1.72 crore on its release day.
‘Parched’ fared worse than ‘Banjo’, with its reported earnings coming to only Rs 0.18 crore. ‘Parched’ was showered with applause from every quarter of the globe, but it failed to attract viewers to the theatres.
Box office report: ‘Pink’ shines; ‘Banjo’ and ‘Parched’ not so much
Here is what Taran Adarsh tweeted about the collections:
Ravi Jadhav’s ‘Banjo’ was termed as a let down by critics. Many were of the opinion that the movie did not exploit the acting talents of Riteish and the script too lacked value. It will be worth seeing if things change for the movie in the coming days.

However, ‘Pink’ is showing no stopping in term of box office collection. It has till now raked in Rs 35.91 crore with a commendable amount minted over the weekdays too. One of the biggest things which worked in the movie’s favour was its relevance in today’s times. In a liner manner, director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhary removed the veil over atrocities women face. The actors too have been garnering admiration since release. Big B’s portrayal of a lawyer blended with Tapsee Pannu’s role of a strong independent woman, has earned this movie a must watch tag.
Now, it will be worth seeing if collections of ‘Pink’ are affected by the September 30 release of ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’, which is being highly awaited by fans.
